The Leader Lab introduces this Feedback Method called Q-BIQ.
The Q-BIQ method is a very good formula to follow if you are unsure how to give constructive feedback or generally want to be more precise and effective in your feedback giving!
Here is the process:
- Question
Ask if your recipient is ready to receive some feedback. It allows them a little space to mentally prepare. - Behavior
Only offer feedback on people's behavior that is noticeable, rather than them as a person. - Impact
Explain which Impact the observed behavior has (which is why you bring it up). - Questions
After giving the feedback, ask the person what they think of it. That way you make feedback a collective two-way conversation.
Remember feedback can be both constructive and positive and you can use the Q-BIQ both to correct and praise team members.
Here is in example:
Hey Daniel, do you have a second(Q) for some feedback?
I noticed(B) how you always do an extra check-in with new customers about their needs with our system. I mention it because it has been really increasing the happiness of our new customers, and they are staying longer(I). I want to thank you for your effort in helping them get familiar with our system, it really makes a difference! Should we make the extra check-in a part of our onboarding process, what do you think?(Q)
